Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you would like to claim a rebate through Medicare, you will need to speak to your GP about whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP).

If you have a valid MHTP and referral from you GP, you are eligible to receive a rebate.  Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year. The current rebate for a 50 minute appointment with a clinical psychologist is $137.05

If you are seeing your GP to organise a Medicare referral, let the GP practice know when you are booking in for your appointment, as you often need to book a long appointment. You will need to provide me with a copy of your referral and MHTP in order to receive the Medicare rebate.

Can I use private health insurance?

Yes, you can use private health insurance. If you would like to use private health insurance please check your policy to ensure that it covers psychology sessions. If you are unsure it is best to call your private health insurer to confirm.

What should I expect on my initial Telehealth session?

A significant portion of the first session is dedicated to getting to know you. I will ask about your current difficulties, strengths, and some history about your life.

Having your first session online (via video or phone) is largely similar to an in-person session. I will ask general questions to understand your concerns and determine if the therapeutic relationship is a good fit.

When attending your session via Telehealth it is important to ensure that you have a private space where you will not be concerned about being interrupted and that you have a good internet connectivity.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

I currently only have capacity for new Telehealth clients.

If you are a new client, please fill out the contact form and we can arrange a time for a brief phone consultation so I can assess your needs and establish whether I would be a good fit for you. You can contact me via the contact form.
